MAQUOKETA — Joyce E. Brown, 70, of Maquoketa, died Friday at her home.

There will be a celebration of her life at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

She was born June 21, 1935, in Jackson County to Donald and Irma M. Petersen Hammond. She married Dale A. Brown on Jan. 31, 1954, in Miles. He died in 1976.

She was a Miles High School graduate.

She worked in the food service industry. She worked at Crestridge Nursing Home and Dolch’s Bakery, both in Maquoketa. She also worked part time at Wal-Mart, Maquoketa.

She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, and its Altar Guild. She also was a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer for several years.

Survivors include her children, Guy (Colleen) Brown of Dallas, Lorna Barlow of Arvada, Colo., Jeff Brown of Maquoketa, Julie (Mark Lippens, husband) Brown of Maquoketa and Mitch (Melanie) Brown of Marion, Ind.; and 12 grandchildren.

A Joyce E. Brown Memorial Fund has been established.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter and five brothers.
