Julia Matilda Yappen

Mrs. Julia M.Yappen, 85, formerly of Preston, died today in Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa.

The funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday in Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, with Rev. Robert Kruger officiating. Burial will be in Miles Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 P.M. Tuesday in Miller Funeral Home, Preston, and after 9:30 A.M. Wednesday in the church.

Pallbearers will be all grandsons.

She was born April 27, 1898, in Germany, to August and Christina Jensen Ingwersen. On Aug. 29, 1917 , she married Charles Yappen. He died in 1953. The couple farmed near Green Island. She later lived in Preston and Maquoketa. For the past year, she was a resident of Mill Valley Care Center, Bellevue. She was a Member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Christina) Daehler of Maquoketa and Mrs Leonard (Edna) Tracy of Baldwin; a son Clifton of Spragueville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ellen Mangler of Sabula; a brother, Julius of Kenosha, Wis.; 20 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter (Alice); a stepson; four brothers and four sisters.
