Jacobs.--Mrs. Elizabeth Jacobs was born April 14, 1837 in Dickin Co., Ohio and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Johnson in Baldwin, Dec. 19, 1912. Her death was caused by old age and complication of diseases. She came to Iowa with her parents, George and Leah Houstin when ten years old. She was married to John Jacobs, February 16, 1853, and was bereft of her husband Oct. 28, 1888. Eleven children were born to this union, four boys and seven girls, six of whom preceded her to the great beyond. Mrs. Jacobs united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1857 and later in life united with the Presbyterian church. She was always ready to help those who stood in need and tried to make the world a little better by lending a helping hand. She was patient in her sufferings. All was done to relieve her and comfort her that loving hands could do, but death came to relieve her of her afflictions. She leaves to mourn their loss, five children, Mrs. Ida Johnson of Baldwin, Mr. T. Jacobs of Los Angeles, Colo.; Mrs. Fannie Kiester of Canton; Mrs. Victoria Ralston of Emeline, and Mrs. Jessie Sheets of Emeline; one brother, Mr. Thomas Houstin of Maquoketa. Fifteen grandchildren and many other relatives and friends survive. She was a loving wife and a kind mother, kind to the poor and needy, serving her God by servng his people. The funeral services were held at the Emeline church, Sunday at 1:30, December 22, 1912, conducted by Rev. H. A. Dalrymple of Maquoketa. Interment was made in the Hickory Grove cemetery. The services were largely attended.
