Jackson Sentinel
Maquoketa, Iowa
Friday, February 9, 1917

David Morehead was born Dec. 25, 1841, near Belpre, Ohio. He came to Jackson county in 1846 with his parents, Thomas and Una Morehead. He was one of a family of eleven children, all of whom have preceded him but one brother, Charles of Maquoketa.

On July 4, 1878, he was united in marriage to Almyra Thomas. This union was blessed with four children, two of whom passed on in infancy, Lee and Clayton, who grew to young manhood and then departed this life, Clayton in 1901 and Lee in 1904.

On account of failing health Mr. and Mrs. Morehead left the farm and moved to Baldwin where they have since resided. While he was not in the best of health, he was as well as usual until Feb. 3, at 1:30 a.m., when he passed suddenly away. While his sudden demise was a great shock to his relatives and friends, it was along the line of his own wishes, as he had often expressed himself that when the final summons came he was ready to answer.

He was of a happy and jovial disposition. To meet him was an inspiration to happiness. In sickness or trouble he was ever kind and thoughful for others, ever ready to lend a helping hand. He leaves besides his sorrowing wife, and his one brother, numerous relatives and legions of friends. The funeral was held from the Baldwin church Tuesday, Feb. 6 1917, Rev. Dawson of the Methodist church officiating. Interment was made in the Pence cemetery.
