Funeral Services Held Friday For Mrs. Morehead

Funeral services for Mrs. Almyra E. Morehead of Baldwin, who passed away at the Leroy hospital in this city on Tuesday, April 19, were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Carson-Balster funeral home. The Rev. H. H. Dill officiated and burial was in the Pence cemetery near Baldwin.

Almyra Elizabeth Thomas, youngest child of John and Martha Thomas, was born near Maquoketa December 9, 1861. She was left an orphan at the age of eight, her mother dying when Almyra was two years old and her father six years later. She was given a home with her brother, Henry Thomas, of Sac county for four years, after which she returned to Jackson county and lived with her sister, Mrs. Nancy Morehead, until her marriage July 4, 1878, to David Morehead.

Four children came to bless their home, two of them dying in infancy. The other two grew to young manhood and the home was again filled with sorrow at the passing of Clayton in 1901 and Lee in 1904.

Mr. and Mrs. Morehead continued to live on the farm until the spring of 1910 when they moved to Baldwin where Mr. Morehead passed away February 3, 1917. Since that time Mrs. Morehead has spent much time with relatives and friends. Two years ago, on account of failing health, she left her own home and has since been tenderly cared for in the home of relatives. Six weeks ago she was taken to the Leroy hospital where she passed away.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Margaret Eldridge, of Paris, Ill.; several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Morehead possessed a kind, loving disposition and was always ready to lend a helping hand to others in sickness and trouble. She was a member of the Methodist church in Baldwin, and remained true to her faith to the last.
