BERNICE I. ANDERSON-TAPLIN

MAQUOKETA — Bernice I. Anderson-Taplin, 97, of Maquoketa and formerly of Preston, died Monday at the Maquoketa Care Center.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Gerald Gjerde officiating. Burial will be in the Miles Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa.

She was born Feb. 25, 1908, in Preston to John and Dora Gosch Koch. She married Andy Andrew Anderson in 1926. He died in 1969. She later married Eldon Taplin on Aug. 6, 1981. He died in 1993.

She graduated from Preston High School.

She was a homemaker, In her early years, she was a cook in a restaurant. She also managed the West Side Grocery Store for 10 years and was a social worker with the state of Iowa for many years.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge and Pope Rebekah Lodge 136, Maquoketa.

Survivors include one daughter, LaVonne Thiede of Phoenix; one son, Roger (Elaine) Anderson of Delmar; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Stamp of Maquoketa; and several step-children.

Memorials are preferred.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, two daughters, parents and two brothers.
