Charles Mangler
Sabula-- The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Law-Jones Funeral Home , Sabula, For Charles H. Mangler ,72 of Sabula.
He died Friday in University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City.
The Rev. Carroll Robinson of Sabula United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from noon until the service hour Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 27 1926, in Green Island, to Alber and Ellen Yappen Mangler. He married Shirley A. Clark, Nov. 8 1947, in Dubuque, Iowa.
He was a 1947 graduate of Sabula High School and was a veteran of WWII , serving in the United States Navy.
He had been employed as an engineer for 48 years with the Milwaukee Railroad, Soo Railroad ,and Canadian Pacific, retiring in 1994. He was inducted into the Railroaders' Hall of Fame in 1996 at Strusburg, Pa.
He was a member of the Sabula United Methodist Church, the Brotherhood Relief and Compensation Fund, and a past member of the Sabula City Council.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Connie (James) Legel of Sabula, and Mrs. Carla (Daniel) O'lear of Peoria, Ill ; two sons, Lonnie Mangler of Enderlin, N.D. and Johnnie Mangler of Sabula; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Apama Paddock and Mrs Isabelle(James) Brundage, both of Sabula, and Mrs Mary (James) Sandholdt of Oskaloosa; and three brother, Wayne Mangler of Clinton and Lloyd and Albert Mangler , both of Sabula.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a sister and a brother.
