Apama D.Blacksten was born Oct 31,1868 in LaGrange,Ind. and died at her home north of Miles, on Feb 24, 1915, at the age of 46 years, 3 months and 24 days, When she was but two years of age she came to Jackson county with her partents , Charles and Ellen Blacksten. They settled on a farm one mile east of Miles, and there she grew to womanhood. On Sept. 6, 1899, she was uniteded in marriage to Charles Yappen. To them were born two children. Charles Hobart , aged 14 years and Ellen Hester, ages, 12 years. The two children her husband, two sisters, Mrs Walter Erichson. of Coleman, S.D. and Mrs Earle Snyder, Ohio, and one bother Orville L. Blacksten, of Kingsley, beside many other relatives are left to mourn her untimely death. She was a very sympathetic woman and always had a good ear to listen to the troubles of others and lend them all the good cheer possible. She took great pride in the betterment of her home and was always planning on what could be done to make things more cheerful. Being a resident of our community for so many years her life as it was lived speaks more than we can find words to express. No one could say anything but good of her and she enjoyed the respected and esteem of all that knew her. Many of her neighbors and friends can recall numerous instances of her cheerful diposition and light heartedness bringing forth the praises of all.

A few months ago she suffered a stroke and was sick for time, but she recovered nicely and for a few days preceding her death she felt unusually well. At the supper hour on the day she was stricken she was exceptionally happy and went into the kitchen to do the work as Charles and the son went to the barn to finish the chores. She was stricken down without warning and only asked for a towel. The little daughter ran to the barn for her father, who hastened in and found her prostrate on the floor. The doctor was sent for and the neighbors hurried to the home but in spite of all she passed away at six o'clock the following morning.
Funeral services were held at the M.E Church, Saturday ,at 2 p.m. Rev. Conklin, of Sabula, assisted by Rev. L.L. Lockard, of this city, conducting the service. The choir, Mesdams Rhondes, E.E. Menneke. F.A.Menneke and McFaul and Misses Isabelle Struve, Grace Deniek, with Mrs. L.L. Lockard at the organ, furnished some very fine selections. The ballbeares were William amd Charles Carter. John and Ernest Frahm, George Rice and Theodore Erichson.
There were many large and beatiful bouquets which literally covered the casket. The church was filled to its capacity with friends and neighbors to pay their last respects to the departed and to sympathize with the grief stricken relatives.
