Maquoketa, Ia., Feb. 25--Harvey Sheldon Peterson was born in Jackson county, Iowa, near Bridgeport, Dec. 23, 1856. Died at his home in this city at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 23, aged 58 years and two months. At a very early age he moved with his parents to Maquoketa and on August 19, 1877, was united in marriage to Miss Abbie Gordon of this city. About four years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Peterson moved to Battle Creek, Iowa, and there resided for eleven years, after which time they returned to this city, which has since been their home. To this union seven children were born, five of whom with the bereaved wife survive a loving, faithful husband and a kind, indulgent father. Charles of Anamosa, Harry, south of this city, Eddie of Astoria, Ill, Mrs. Vern Bentley of near Maquoketa, Miss Gertrude, at home. He also leaves an aged mother, one brother, Matthew, and one sister, Mrs. Ed Bell to mourn his untimely death. Following a prayer at the home on South Main street at 12 o'clock, the funeral services were held at the M. E. church this afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. Bartholomew officiating, services being held under the auspices of Wood Camp No. 161, M.W.A. Interment was made at the Union church cemetery.

Although Mr. Peterson has been a very sick man all winter, all were shocked to heard he had passed away. Deceased was a deservedly popular salesman in earlier years for A. D. Lawrence, E. B. Allen and W. E. Lamey, but later he went into business for himself, and every one knew him to be thoroughly honest in all his dealings. He retired from business about two years ago.
