Preston, Ia. July 10--One by one the early pioneers of Jackson county are crossing the silent river never more to return. But the impress of their lives and the strong convictions of their moral worth are never lost but ever left among those who knew them. The solemn event brings to all the surety of death and the brighter world beyond.

Mr. Swaney has gone to his reward, leaving a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his death. For several years past he has been failing in health and for about two years has suffered with a complication of troubles which resulted in his death.

He was known by his neighbors as a very kind neighbor and friend to those in need and was always ready and willing to do what was in his power to help those who were in trouble.

Adelbert M. Swaney, eldest son of Fletcher D. and Mary Ann Swaney, was born in Van Buren township, Jackson county, Iowa, Dec. 28, 1844, and passed away at his home Thursday morning, July 5, 1917, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 7 days. All of these years have been spent in this immediate vicinity with the exception of 8 months in the year of 1871 spent in Nebraska.

He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Weasmer June 15, 1869. To this happy union one son was born. He is survived by his sorrowing wife and son, Levi F., who resides at Lyons, Iowa, and brother Levi W. who resides in Delmar, and many other immediate relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the late home Saturday, July7, at 2 p.m. Rev. Waudby officiated with interment in Van Buren cemetery.
