Bellevue, Ia., Feb. 1--The community was shocked late Thursday evening and Friday morning to hear of the death of Mrs. Nicholas Steichen, one of our oldest residents, who came here in 1871. Deceased was 91 years and three months old. She was spry and in her usual good health up to that morning when she was stricken and failed to respond to medical skill and kind nursing. She had made her home for a number of years with her son Harry. The funeral was held Monday morning from her home to Spence Creek Catholic church of which she was a long and faithful member, also of the Rosary society. She leaves to mourn five sons and two daughters, thirty-four grandchildren, thirty two great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild. Two sons and four daughters came from South Dakota to attend the funeral.
