Preston, Ia., Oct. 27--One by one the early pioneers of the country are crossing the silent river, never more to return, but the impress of their lives and the strong convictions of their moral worth are never lost, but ever left among those who knew them. The solemn event brings to all the surety of death and the brighter world beyond.

William Mangler has gone to his reward, leaving a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his death. He passed away Sunday evening at 11 o'clock at the home of his son-in-law Chris Brinker. Mr. Mangler has been in ill health for several months, but never in that time did he lose interest in private or public life.

Wm. Mangler was born in Hanover, Germany, on the 29th day of January, 1838. In the year 1859 he came to America with his parents, making their home near Bellevue, Ia. On the 24th day of October, 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Wilhelmina Lampe, to which happy union twelve children were born, one dying in infancy. In November, 1914, Mrs. Mangler passed away. Since her death he has made his home with his son-in-law Chris Brinker. He was a well known farmer. Due to his age, Mr. Mangler failed rapidly since the death of his wife. He leaves to mourn his loss eleven children, as follows: Mrs. Fred Claussen, Teeds Grove; Mrs. Henry Klemme, Green Island; Mrs. Chris Brinker, Preston; Mrs. Joe Feldermann, Holyoak, Colo.; Fred Mangler, Bellevue; Wm. Mangler, Bellevue; Mrs. Frank McLaughlin, Marshalltown; Mrs. Otto Meyers, Preston; Charley Mangler, Green Island; Frank Mangler, Bellevue; Mrs. Henry Mangler, Green Island. Also forty-seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. At the time of his death he was 78 years, 7 months and 23 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 10 o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church, Rev. Moehl officiating. Interment was made in the Van Buren cemetery.
