Preston, Ia., July 7--One by one, the early pioneers of the county are crossing the silent river, never more to return. But the impress of their lives and the strong convictions of their moral worth are never lost, but ever left among those who knew them.

Mr. Charles Behrens has gone to his reward, leaving a large circle of friends and acquaintances to mourn his death.

Mr. Behrens' death was caused from old age. He passed away at 4 o'clock p.m. Friday, June 30.

Charles Behrens was born April 28, 1840, in Mecklenburg, Germany. He came to America in 1863, where he resided in Lyons, and on March 18, 1871, was united in marriage at Bellevue to Sophia Hoase. From there they came to Preston, where he has since lived.

He is survived by two sons, Charley of Humboldt and Otto of Preston, and one daughter, Mrs. Simmons of Preston.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the house at 2 p.m. the Rev. James H. Moehl officiating. Interment was made in Preston cemetery.
