Maquoketa, Ia. Aug. 11--Another of Jackson county's highly esteemed pioneers answered the last call, and passed to the great beyond at his home in Monmouth Tuesday, August 8, 1916, when John Cass breathed his last, aged 89 years, 7 months and 15 days.

Mr. Cass was born in Canada, Dec. 23, 1826, came to Iowa in an early day, and was a man of considerable means, a retired farmer, and money loaner, who has helped many pay for their farms, by being satisfied with low rates of interest, lived a plain and upright life and leaves several children and a large circle of friends to mourn his loss.

The funeral was held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Gould of Anamosa officiating. Interment at Monmouth.
