Harold N. Knief 1927-2002

MAQUOKETA, Iowa - Harold N. Knief, 75, of Maquoketa, formerly of rural St. Donatus, died suddenly Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus, with Pastor Judy Deckert, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Church Cemetery, St. Donatus. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

Mr. Knief farmed all of his life in rural Bellevue on the family farm until retiring and moving to Maquoketa last year.

He was born on June 6, 1927, in rural Bellevue, son of Louis F. and Alvina (Hueneke) Knief.

He was a Korean War Army veteran, where he was a munitions handler. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 14, 1952. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus. He loved farming and playing cards with neighbors.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Marilyn Knief, of Maquoketa; two nephews, Kevin (Sue) Knief, of Bellevue, and Daniel (Gretchen) Knief, of Dubuque; and a niece, Kimberly (Bill) Thill, of Dubuque.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Irvin L. Knief.

A Harold N. Knief Memorial Fund has been established
