BERNARD, Iowa - Walter F. Meloy, 80, of Bernard, died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, with the Rev. Thomas Bisenius officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Garryowen. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4:30 p.m., and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7 p.m.

Mr. Meloy farmed in the Bernard area all of his life.

He was born on April 2, 1921, in Bernard, son of Walter R. and Elizabeth (Herzog) Meloy. He married Cecelia Noonan on Sept. 17, 1946, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen.

He received his education in the rural country schools and St. Patrick's School in Garryowen. He was a member of St. Patrick's Parish, Garryowen, and its rosary society. He also was a member of the Cascade Knights of Columbus Council 930, and a 50-year member of Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Cecelia Meloy, of Cascade; three children, Peggy (Ron) McDermott, of Coal Valley, Ill., Dave Meloy (and his fiancee, Ruthanne Lucas), of Muscatine, and Mark (Jeanne) Meloy, of Springfield, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Tanya, Erin and Brian McDermott, Robert and Marissa Meloy and Kevin and Shannon Meloy; a brother-in-law, Raymond Kinsella, of Dubuque; and four nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

A Walter F. Meloy Memorial Fund has been established.
