Bernice (Sullivan) O'Meara 1908-2009

Bernice O'Meara, 101, of Stonehill Franciscan Center, formerly of Alverno Apts. for 10 years and Zwingle, Iowa; died at 3:10 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009, Stonehill Franciscan Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 2, at St. Raphael's Cathedral, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in North Garryowen St. Patrick Cemetery, Bernard, Iowa. The Siegert-Casper Colonial Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 390 N. Grandview Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on May 10, 1908, in Jackson County South Garryowen, Bernard. She married John O'Meara on Feb. 21, 1939: he preceded her in death on February 3, 1992.

Bernice was a registered nurse with the Jackson County Public Health Hospital, Maquoketa, Iowa. Most of her life she farmed with her husband in Zwingle.

She was a member of St. Raphael's Cathedral Parish.

Surviving are her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her son, Dean O'Meara, on Nov. 3, 2004; four sisters, Marie McMahon, Agnes Takes, Beatrice Dolphin and Margaret Jefferson; and a brother, John Sullivan.

Memorials may be given to Stonehill Care Center 3485 Windsor Ave., Dubuque, IA, 52001.
