CASCADE, Iowa - Judith English, 70, of 800 W. Sixth Ave. NW, Cascade, formerly of Bernard, and Denver, Colo., died at 12:20 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011 at Shady Rest Care Center, Cascade. Services will at 11 a.m. Monday, March 28, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 8 a.m. Monday at the church. The Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, is in charge of arrangements.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1940, in Dubuque, daughter of Clement and Marge (Kennedy) English. She received her elementary education in the Jackson County country schools. She is a graduate of the former St. Patrick's High School in Garryowen. She received her bachelor of arts degree at Marycrest College in Davenport and her post graduate degree at the University of Colorado and the University of Northern Colorado. Judith taught in Colorado for 39 years. She was very involved in forming policies and advocacy for members of the Colorado Education Association. For 35 years, Judy was a classroom teacher for fifth and sixth grades. From 1982 to 1986, Judy served as president of the Jefferson County Education Association, after which time she returned to her passion, classroom teaching, and remained there until she retired in 2001. Judy remained in Colorado until 2006, when she returned to Cascade.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Garryowen, and its Rosary Society, Our Lady of Fatima in Lakewood, Colo., a lifetime member of the Jefferson County Education Association and the Colorado Education Association-active and retired member, and the National Education Association active and retired member. Judith will be remembered as a lifelong learner, she was especially interested in reading, history, art and travel.

Surviving are her four siblings, Elizabeth (Duane) Lammert, of Metairie, La., Mary Jo Henneberry, of Cascade, Joan English and Tom (Mary) English, both of Bernard; nieces and nephews, Karen Lammert, Scott (Traci) Lammert, Kathy Lammert, Robert (Pat) Henneberry, Lori Leibold, Linda (Jeff) Otting, LuAnne Henneberry, Lisa (Doug) Frey, Jan (Brian) McDermott, Mike Henneberry, Mary Jayne (Scott) Schlemme, Patrick (Ginny) Henneberry, Desi English and Trisha English; and many great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Margaret English, in infancy and Jayne Ann English, in early childhood; and a brother-in-law, John Henneberry.
