BERNARD, Iowa - Donald J. "Don" Molony, 85, of 953 Molony Road, Bernard, passed away Monday December 26, 2016, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 29, 2016, from 9 - 11 AM at St. Patrick's Church, Garryowen. The Funeral Mass will follow with Rev. Doug Loecke officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #528. Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, Key West, IA, is in charge of arrangements.

Don was born on October 28, 1931, the son of James A. and Mary (McCormick) Molony, of Bernard. He graduated from Saint Patrick's Garryowen High School in 1949. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the Signal Corps stationed in Germany from 1952 to 1954. He returned to Bernard to work on the family farm.

He was active in the Bernard community, serving on the Board of the Bernard Telephone Co. for 35 years, the Bernard Fire Department Board, and was a lifelong member of St. Patrick's Church, Garryowen. Don's legacy will live on through the Molony Foundation.

He is survived by his sister Mary Kathleen "Kay" Molony; his brother James M. Molony; and his Goddaughter Anastasia "Staci" Molony, of Bernard.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be given to Saint Patrick's Garryowen Parish.
