GARRYOWEN, Iowa - Merlin W. Noonan, 71, of Living Center East, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Prairieburg and Garryowen, died at 4 p.m. Monday, March 30, 1998, at the center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 7 p.m.

Mr. Noonan farmed in the Prairieburg area, retiring in 1993.

He was born on April 8, 1926, in Garryowen, son of Walter and Pauline (Brady) Noonan. He married Eugenia "Jean Marie" Callaghan on Aug. 7, 1956, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Prairieburg.

Surviving are his wife, Jeanie Noonan, of Living Center East; two sons, Robert Noonan, of Coggon, and Brother David Noonan, SVD, of Techny, Ill.; two daughters, Mary (John) Austin, of Vinton, and Regina (Moses) Mohamed, of Walls, Miss.; four grandchildren, Andrea, Jacob and Susan Austin, and Joseph Mohamed; a brother, Delbert (Kay) Noonan, of Monticello; and a sister, Rita (Larry) Hartung, of Monticello.

He was preceded in death by two sons, one in infancy and Dennis J. Noonan, on Aug. 18, 1976; his parents; two brothers, Norbert and Richard Noonan; and a sister, Kathleen.

A Merlin W. Noonan Memorial Fund has been established.
