Death Calls D. T. Noonan

Wellknown and Respected Resident of Garry Owen Passes Away

Death claimed one of the best known citizens of Garry Owen when Daniel T. Noonan died last Thursday evening at his home after an illness of ten months. Last April he submitted to a serious operation from which he never fully recovered, and was in more or less poor health during the past year.

Mr. Noonan was born in County Clare, Ireland, 84 years ago, and came to America with his parents, Cornelius and Mary Noonan, when he was three years old.

In 1856 the family settled in Butler township, Jackson county, in the settlement known as Garry Owen. Love of family, kindness to his neighbors and industry, were the prominent traits of his character. In return he commanded the respect and high esteem of his fellow men.

Mr. Noonan was married to Miss Mary Ward, April 2, 1883, in St. Patrick’s church, Garry Owen. She preceded him in death on July 30, 1923. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. James J. Boyle, of Mason City; Elizabeth, Margaret, Ella and Michael and two brothers, Patrick and Andrew Noonan, of Garry Owen.

The funeral services were held Monday, January 16th, in St. Patrick’s church, Garry Owen. The requiem high Mass was celebrated by Rev. P. D. Mulcahy, pastor, Rev. Dr. Wolfe of Columbia College; and Rev. Laughnane, of South Garryowen.

The pallbearers were Andrew Noonan, William Noonan, Emmett Crowley, Howard Crowley, Cecil Quinn, Mike Noonan, Ned Noonan, and Joseph Noonan.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
