JOHN O'CONNELL'S DEATH

The death of John O'Connell, who died at Mercy hospital in Dubuque on Tuesday, January 2, 1923, was a source of genuine sorrow to his relatives and many friends, who will long recall his friendly manners and sterling qualities.

John was taken ill last March and was removed to Dubuque, where he received every special treatment that medical science and loving hands could provide but all to no avail.

John O'Connell was born December 22, 1870 and was therefore a few days past 52 years of age. He was a son of the late John and Johanna O'Connell and Garryowen was his birthplace and where he resided all of his lifetime until his illness.

He is survived by his brothers P. J., James and David O'Connell, of Garry Owen, and sisters, Mrs. Patrick Crotty, of Garry Owen, Sister M. Miriam, of the Asbury sanitorium, and Sister M. Geraldine, of Mercy hospital.

The funeral services were held last Thursday morning from the home of David O'Connell to St. Patrick's church, Rev. P. J. Coffey officiating and interment took place in the cemetery adjoining the church.

The pallbearers were Nello O'Connell, Joseph and Frank O'Connell, Melvin and Joseph Leonard and Betrand Crotty; all nephews of the deceased.

Additional information:
Cascade Pioneer lists birth date as Dec. 22, 1870 however Dubuque Telegraph Herald and Monticello Express list the birth date as Dec. 8, 1870.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
