Murilla Stanton, twenty-one year old daughter of Mr. and .Mrs. William Stanton, passed away Saturday morning at 12:30 a. m. Death came following an illness of only a short duration. An infection which medical science knows of no way to arrest was the immediate cause of her demise. The news of the expiration of this popular and charming young girl was a frightful shock to her many friends and acquaintances who sympathize beyond expression with her bereaved family, prostrated by the grim spectre of death which so suddenly stalked their home. The quick and sudden passing of one whose life was in the bloom makes earthly existence seem so futile, and the only consolation left to realize is that there is a Hand more mighty, all-seeing and just, who moves swiftly in bringing about the destiny of man and His chosen children.

Murilla Catherine Stanton was born on the family homestead at Garryowen October 28, 1910. She was a graduate of St. Patricks school and had lived at home since that time. Besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Stanton, she is survived by two brothers, Lloyd, at home, and Orland of Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. Dennis Martin, and Mrs. Francis Wolfe of Bernard.

The funeral services were held from the family home to St. Patrick's church at Garryowen on Monday morning at nine o'clock. The Rev. Father Donahue read the requiem high mass and Rev. P. J. Coffey of Farley preached a sermon. The officers of the mass were Rev. Donahue, celebrant; Rev. Coffey, deacon; Rev. Malone, sub-deacon. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery The pallbearers were David Stanton, Jr., Joseph Barnable, Vincent Shanahan, William Reardon, John Carr, Jake Ressler, Eldon Curoe and Ted Wolfe.

The funeral was one of the largest ever seen in Garryowen representing adequately the legion of friends and popularity of the deceased.

Those attending from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Crowley, Mrs. Hanna Crowley, Mrs. John Mahoney, Joe Crowley and daughter, Eleanor, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Grace, Mr. and .Mrs. Dennis Collins, Mrs. Ellen McCarthy and daughter Rose, Dan Reardon, of Cedar Rapids; Emmett Crowley and sister, Bernice of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crowley and Claude Lynn of Maquketa; Mrs. Catherine McDermott, sons Leo and Edward and wife and daughter, Mrs. Catherine Kline, Mildred and Walter Reardon of Dubuque; Wm. Griffin, Tom Griffin and families, Father Coffey of Farley; Mr. and Mrs. John Duggan of Ryan; Mr. and Mrs. Orland Stanton, of Chicago.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
