Mrs. John Burke

Mrs. John Burke, wife of a prominent Dubuque county farmer, died at her home in Garryowen, Saturday, at 8:40 p.m., following an illness of some duration. Mrs. Burke was a devoted mother and wife, was prominent and popular throughout the county and her many friends mourn her passing with the fervor of true sincerity.

Catherine Donovan, daughter of Patrick and Mary Donovan, was born December 25, 1880. She married John Burke at St. Patrick’s church, Garryowen, and resided in that vicinity with the exception of five years residence in Dubuque, until her death. She was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and passed away fortified by the last rites of the religion she espoused.

Besides her husband, John Burke, the deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Jack DaVelaar of Dubuque, one son, Earl Burke of Garryowen, one brother, Frank Donovan of Toledo, Ohio, and one sister, Mrs. Joseph Burke, of Dubuque.

Funeral services were held from the home to St. Patrick's Church at nine o'clock where a mass of requiem was read. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery and Rev P. J. Malone, pastor, officiated both at the church and grave. The casket bearers were James D. and James C. O’Connell, Paddy O’Connell, Ben Donovan, James Kinsella, Joseph Burke, Dennis McDonnell and Joseph M. Noonan.

Compliments of Joseph Cahill
