John Burke

John Burke, 63, of Garryowen, passed away Tuesday morning, December 21, following a lingering illness that had slowly but surely sapped the strength of a man who was once the most powerful and robust character in his home community of Garryowen. He was universally liked and will be missed by those who knew him.

On account of the serious illness of his wife they moved from the farm in Garryowen to Dubuque where they lived until her death, in 1933. Since that time he has spent part of his time with his son, Earl, in Garryowen and Velnar[?] of Dubuque.

The funeral was held from the Bennett and Ashworth Funeral Home in Dubuque to St. Patrick's Church in Garryowen Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Cemetery. Devaney's Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
