BERNARD, Iowa - Grace Ann Gassman, 43, of 1023 McCarthy Road, Bernard, died Sunday evening, Sept. 15, 2002, as the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident on Higginsport Road.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen, rural Bernard, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m.

She was born on May 9, 1959, in Dubuque, daughter of Orville and Lucille (Kress) Conlan. She married Ronald "Ron" Gassman on July 11, 1981, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Garryowen.

She graduated from Wahlert High School in 1978. She also graduated from Capri Cosmetology College and worked as a hair stylist for 24 years at Barbers, then City Looks and most recently at Salon 26.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Garryowen, where she belonged to the altar and rosary society, served on the school board, was a parish counsel member and was a eucharistic minister. She was an avid walker and enjoyed it daily. She was a second mom for many.

Surviving are her husband, Ron Gassman, of Bernard; a son, Jacob Gassman, and two daughters, Anna and Molly Gassman, all at home; her mother, Lucille Conlan; three sisters, Sister Patricia Conlan, RSM, of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Roger) Konrardy, of Dubuque, and Doris (Allan) Sauser, of Cascade; four brothers, Joseph "Joe" (Gail Alt) Conlan, of Cedar Rapids, Frank (Darlene) Conlan, of Bernard, Edward "Ed" Conlan, of Bernard, and Dan (Barb) Conlan, of Key West; her mother-in-law, Berniece Gassman, of Bernard; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orville Conlan, on Aug. 12, 1991; and her father-in-law, Ed Gassman, on Sept. 17, 1997.

A Grace Ann Gassman Memorial Fund has been established.
