BERNARD, Iowa - Rachel Rose Decker, 30, of Bernard, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014, at Sunnycrest Manor, Dubuque.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at St. Patrick's, Garryowen, with the Rev. Douglas Locke officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends of Rachel and her family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where their will be a parish wake service at 4 p.m.

Rachel was born on July 19, 1984, in Dubuque, the daughter of Jay and Marlene (Kress) Decker.

Despite the challenges Rachel endured, she always had a beautiful smile on her face. She touched many people throughout her life and will always be treasured in our memories. Rachel loved spending time with her family and joking around with her caretakers and friends. Rachel also thoroughly enjoyed listening to music, all things yellow and big, fuzzy pillows.

Those left to cherish Rachel's memory include her parents, Jay and Marlene Decker, of Bernard; sisters, Renee Decker, of Bernard, Teresa Decker, of Union Grove, Wis., Johnna Decker, of Ames, and Katelyn Decker, of Ames; brothers, Richard (fiancee, Marissa Hosch) Decker, of Bernard, and Robert Decker, of Bernard; Grandma, Carmie Decker, of Bernard; and her aunts and uncles, Bonnie (Gary) Hancock, of Epworth, Debi O'Brien, of Dubuque, Larry (Lynn) Decker, of Bernard, Carol "Pearl" (Dave) Shanahan, of Bernard, Margie (fiance, Ron "Zip" Gassman) Bradley, of Bernard, Dave (Connie) Kress, of Epworth, Richard (Lorraine) Kress, of Farley, and Linda (Mark "Fish") Dolphin, of Farley; and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Earl and Rose Decker and Jack and Gladys Kress; and two uncles, Steve Bradley and Merlin Kress.

A Rachel Decker Memorial Fund has been established to benefit others with special needs.

We would like to send a special thank-you to all the health care providers and social workers who have helped Rachel throughout the years. Not limiting to, but including the Convalescent Home for Children (Johnston, Iowa), Hills & Dales (Dubuque ), Faith, Hope and Charity (Storm Lake) Prairie House (Maquoketa) and Sunnycrest Manor (Dubuque). We would also like to say thank-you to Dr. Cao, Mercy Medical Center, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Jackson Regional Medical Center.
