Mildred "Milly" (Hayes) Feeney 1927-2013

Mildred "Milly" Feeney, 85, of Dubuque, passed away at 6:15 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in Dubuque. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Garryowen Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 3 p.m.

She was born on May 12, 1927, in Otter Creek, Iowa, daughter of James and Mary (Hawkes) Hayes. She graduated from St. Patrick's Garryowen High School in 1945, and taught at Fairview School in rural Dubuque County. She married Robert Feeney on June 23, 1951, at St. Lawrence Church, Otter Creek, Iowa. She was a homemaker for many years, caring for their five children. Milly worked with Bob at Feeney Insurance for 20 years before retiring in 1992. Milly and Bob enjoyed their yearly travels and visits with their children and grandchildren. She enjoyed attending many of her children and grandchildren's sporting events. During her last days, her loving husband, children and grandchildren were by her side.

She passed away peacefully knowing that her family was there. Surviving are her loving husband, Bob; five children, Linda (Karl) Burmester, of DeWitt, Iowa, Connie (Mark) Smith, of West Union, Iowa, Joe (Mary Jo) Feeney, of Shadow Hills, Calif., Don Feeney, of Burbank, Calif., and Jan (Todd Taylor) Feeney, of Champaign, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Aimee, Erin and Patrick Burmester, Jesse, Jeremy and Lauren Smith and Becky, Jennifer and Matthew Feeney; a sister, Geri Connolly, of Dubuque; a brother, Don (Margaret) Hayes, of Dubuque; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Herbie Hayes and Kathleen Hickson; a sister-in-law, Mary Louise Hayes; brothers-in-law, Cletus "Junior" Connolly and Allan Hickson.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque, especially Three West, and also Hospice of Dubuque for all their wonderful care and kindness they gave to Milly.
