OBITUARY: Dorthea Lund
Died-at her home in this city on Monday morning, Nov. 16, Miss Dorthea Lund, after a lingering illness with consumption. It was with the utmost sorrow that the host of friends of the afflicted family and of the departed one, heard of the death of Dorthea Lund. Deceased was born on Brabak, Germany May 8, 1879, She was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Lund, and wither parents came to this country in 1882, arriving in Sabula, Sept 15 of the same year, where they have ever since resided. She was of a sunny, radiant disposition, ever ready to extend a hand of friendship, and was surrounded by a large circle of warm friends. In but her eighteenth year and just blossoming into womanhood it indeed seems cruel to see her taken from among loving parents, brothers, sisters and friends by the cold sting of death, but fate had so decreed and her suffering is no more. A year ago the first symptoms of consumption were noticeable in her system, and the dreaded monster slowly wasted her life away in spite of the best of medical aid and all the human hands could do to allay its process. Her illness was one accompanied by much suffering, and in her weak, emaciated condition she prayed and longed to die. She waited patiently for the day to dawn when she would be free from all earthly sufferings and her spirit wafted to higher and better land, for she was a devout member of the Lutheran church and believed that “God Doeth all things for the best.” As the clock was tolling the hour of eight on Monday morning, she passed away without a struggle. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. F.L. Grundtvig and W. Rankin Dyre preaching the funeral discourses, in the presence of a large gathering if the friends of the deceased, and the remains were laid away in Evergreen cemetery. A father and mother deeply bowed in sadness together with four sisters and three brothers are left to mourn their loss and the earnest sympathies are wished to them in their bereavement.
