OBITUARY: Mrs. Dorthea Lund
Mrs. Dorthea Lund, the oldest resident of Sabula and of Jackson county, mention of whose death was made in last weeks Gazette, was born in Froyrup, North Schleswig, Germany, January 8, 1812. Her maiden name was Annie Dorthea Rimmer and she was united in marriage with Soren C. Lund at Gilberg, Denmark, November 14, 1841. To them were born three children, all of which are living. They are Margaret, who resides in Denmark, Chris, of this city, and Lena (Mrs. Paul Rasmussen) also of Sabula. Mrs. Lund came to America, Sept 15, 1882, and has since been a resident of this city. Her death occurred after a brief illness on January 31st, 1907, at the rare old age of 95 years and 23 days. Deceased joined the Danish Lutheran church at an early age and always lived in strict adherence to its teachings. Although living a quarter of a century beyond the allotted three score years and ten, she was always able to care for herself and assist in the household duties and up to the time that winter weather set in, was able to walk to the home of her daughter, four blocks distant. Through out her residence in Sabula, Mrs. Lund was a woman of purest character, Christian motives and was generally beloved by all. In her ninety-five years of mortal life she has rarely known sickness and it is related that but once I that time has she used medicine. Twas indeed a long well spent life and her memory will be deeply cherished by both relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the M.E. church. The services were conducted in Danish by Rev. Faber and in English by Rev. W.R. Melloit and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery. Besides the son and daughters, a number of grandchildren and one great-grandchild are left to mourn her loss. Those from out of town who were present at the funeral were Mr. And Mrs. Wm. Winters of Clinton and Cern Rasmussen of Racine Wisc.
