Body of Dentist Found in River At Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Ia. -- The body of Dr. C. L. Veach, 55, Bellevue dentist, was found about 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Mississippi River.

Dr. Veach had last been seen walking toward the river at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was reported to have been in poor health.

Private services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at the Dye Funeral Home, followed by rites at the Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Laurence Nelson will officiate. The American Legion will conduct military rites at the grave in the Presbyterian cemetery.

Dr. Veach was a lifelong resident of the Bellevue area. He was born Sept. 17, 1896. He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two sons, Robert and Thomas; a daughter, Marcia; a brother, Fred, of Bellevue, and a sister, Mrs. Viola Garrett, of Agar, S. D.

Mrs. Veach went to her husband's office about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and found the door locked. It was broken down, and a wallet, keys and a coat belonging to the denist (sic) were in the room.

Dragging operations began shortly after, under the direction of Sheriff Lorin Felderman. The body was found just off the sea wall in downtown Bellevue by George and Joe Schmink, fishermen.
