MAQUOKETA, Iowa - John Ronek, 76, of Maquoketa, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at his home.
A memorial dinner will be held for family and friends from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12, at Circle M Auction Hall, Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Lahey Funeral & Cremation Service, Maquoketa, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1932, in Bernard, son of Otto J. and Viola E. (Oswald) Ronek. He married Joanne C. Homan on Sept. 8, 1958, in Springbrook.
He was a machinist at Caterpillar in Davenport, retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed planning the calendar of events for the residents of Hurst Hotel. John was an avid card player and liked to fish.
Surviving are four, Julie (John) Keeney, of Maquoketa, Jolene (Ed Lorezel) Ronek, of Davenport, Judith (Tony Humphries) Renfrow, of Golden, Texas, and John (Michelle) Ronek II, of Decatur, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Kennicker, of Farley; and two brothers, George (Mary) Ronek, of Andrew, and Dale (Rene) Kennicker, of Delmar.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson; three brothers; and a sister.
