Jackson Sentinel, Feb. 12, 1926

John Heath, son of Uri and Elizabeth Heath, was born in Ohio, June 10, 1848, and died in Monmouth, Feb. 7, 1926, aged 77 years, 7 months and 27 days. He came to Iowa when a boy, they settling in northern Iowa, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Betsy M. Witham at Algona, Iowa, Jan. 1, 1867, who preceded him in death Jan. 14, 1912. To this union eight children were born, all living and present at the funeral. They are: Cass Heath, at home, Elver S. Heath, Monmouth, Mrs. Daisy Shinkle, Maquoketa, Charles Heath, Oxford Junction, Mrs. Lillie Womelsdorf, LaMotte, Mrs. Lottie Pickett, Baldwin, John Heath, Savanna, Mrs. Pearl Gabel, DeWitt.

Mr. Heath moved to Jackson County about 50 years ago, where he has lived either in Monmouth or vicinity ever since with the exception of eighteen months in Florida. Mr. Heath was one of the first rural mail carriers out of Monmouth, serving on this route for 12 years with the entire satisfaction of his patrons. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. D. C. Perry officiating. Interment was made in the Monmouth cemetery. The pall bearers were J. H. Orris, J. H. Post, F. N. Waugh, George Sokol, Henry Kriete and D. R. Johnson.
