William Morehead, 77, former owner of many of the caves near Maquoketa, died Easter Sunday. The funeral services will be held Tuesday at the East Iron Hill Church at 2 o’clock and burial will be made there.

Mr. Morehead was born on a cave farm in the vicinity of the many caves long known as the Morehead caves. The area was later converted into a state park. Thousands of the visitors to the cave knew him and after the state took over the property, he was retained as caretaker.

Surviving him are three sons, Beth, Maquoketa, Eugene and Clarence in Onslow; and one daughter, Mrs. Hilda Caven, in DeWitt. Mrs. Morehead died several years ago.
