Clarence Burleson, one of the Trustees of South Fork Township, had a sad case to deal with recently. He was notified that a family named Welsh was in sore distress near the Godard Mill. He and his wife went over to investigate, and found the man, John Welsh, dead on the bed, his wife lying sick beside him and six small children burning up old rubbish to keep from freezing. There was scarcely anything to eat in the shack called a home, and very little clothing.

Dr. Ritter, county coroner, was notified and hastened to the place and pronounced the man's death due to grip, exposure and neglect. The widow and children were taken to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moses Prindle, where they will remain until further action is taken by authorities. Mrs. Prindle, her daughter, Mrs. Welsh and another daughter are very ill and there is need for kind neighbors and friends to assist the family in every way possible.
