DEATH OF JAMES McLAUGHLIN

It is with feelings of deep regret that the writer is called upon to chronicle the death of that estimable citizen, James McLaughlin, postmaster and merchant of Garryowen, whose spirit passed to the great beyond Monday afternoon. Sometime ago he contracted a serious affection of the lungs, and gradually the disease consumed those vital organs, reducing the once stalwart man to helplessness, and finally carried his spirit to the shores of that mystic shade called death.

He was born in Tonton, Mass., about 47 years ago, and was a son of Michael McLaughlin, who survives him. With his parents he came to Iowa and settled in Garryowen.

Industrious and frugal, as a farmer and merchant, he amassed considerable wealth, and was a prominent factor in the community. He was married to Miss Noonan, sister of P. C. Noonan, who with nine children, five sons and four daughters, remain to mourn his death.

The funeral took place Wednesday morning at St. Patrick's church, the Rev. John Kelly officiating.
