John O'Mara

John O'Mara, prominent and respected farmer of this community died at Iowa City at the University of Iowa hospital last Thursday afternoon following a brief illness.

Mr. O'Mara's death was a distinct shock to his many friends and relatives. A long, useful life engaged in farming. Mr. O’Mara was a most respected citizen and made countless friends which endured throughout his life. They join sorrowing relatives in deeply mourning his departure.

John, the son of the late John and Margaret Mennes O'Mara, was born in Maryland, February 8, 1868 and came to this vicinity with his parents. He was married to Miss Bridget (Jettie) Mullady on April 12th, 1906 and has farmed in this vicinity, Garryowen and Bernard, ever since.

He is survived by his widow, one son, John, and a daughter Mathilda, both at home. Also surviving are four brothers and three sisters: Timothy, Dave, and Walter, all of Dubuque, Edmund of Chicago; Maggie and Agnes, both of Dubuque, and Mrs. Mike Ward of Bernard.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 o'clock Monday morning from the farm home to the Sacred Heart church at Fillmore with Rev. J. J. Leen officiating at the mass of requiem. Interment was made in St. Patrick's cemetery at Garryowen where Rev. P. F. Malone officiated at the graveside.

Pallbearers were: Austin Boyle, William Dunn, Louis Meloy, Vincent Henneberry, Neal Koch, and Dennis Driscoll.
