OBITUARY

John O'Mara died at his home in Bernard Wednesday, March 9, 1904, at the age of
73 years. Cause of death was pneumonia. Mr. O'Mara was born in County Wexford,
Ireland, in 1831. In 1840 he emigrated to America, settling in Kent county,
Maryland. In 1804 he married Katherine Minnis. Four children were born to this
union, viz: John, Timothy, Joseph and Alphonse, the two latter having preceded
him to their reward. He came west in 1867 and located at Washington Mills where
in 1872 his wife passed away. October 16, 1879, he married Mary Crotty, and to
them seven children were born mainly: Frank, Mrs. M. Ward, David, Edward,
Maggie, Walter and Agnes, all of whom, with his wife, survive him. Mr. O'Mara
was of a genial, pleasure-loving disposition and counted his friends by his
acquaintances. He told a story well and was welcome in all social gatherings.
His illness was brief and he seemed to realize from the first that the end was
near. He was perfectly resigned, and talked cheerfully even when he suffered
most. He died fortified by the rites of the Catholic church through which during
life he was a fervent member.

On Friday morning a largo concourse of relatives and friends followed his
remains to Garryowen, the services being held in St. Patrick's church, where
every Sunday he was seen to worship God. Rev. Father Roche of Cascade preached
am eloquent eulogy on the life of deceased in which he said: "He was a devout
member of his church, a faithful friend, a devoted husband and father: Nothing
better can be said of any man."

The pall bearers were Messrs. Con Crowley, Mike Cain, Jerry McDonnell, Mike
Slattery, Alex Moriarity and Michael Crimmins. Brief services were conducted at
the grave by Revs. Kelly and Lonergan.
