Bellevue, Iowa

Elsie M. Heckelsmiller, 80, of Bethany Home, Dubuque, formerly of Bellevue, died after a brief illness Sunday, Dec. 26, 1993 at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kingery-Gallagher Funeral Home, Bellevue, where there will be an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Mrs. Heckelsmiller was a homemaker and also helped farm with her husband three miles south of Bellevue.

She was born on Dec. 5, 1913, at Green Island, daughter of William E. and Rose (Seaman) Roe. She married Glenn Heckelsmiller on Aug. 29, 1933, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; he died Oct. 1, 1984.

She was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, past president of the Bellevue Senior Citizens, and a member of the Bellevue Garden Club. She was active on the First Presbyterian Church board and session. She was also active in politics.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Shirley Peterson, of Sabula, Mrs. Elaine Thumser, of Dubuque, and Mrs. Phyllis Sieverding, of Bellevue; nine grandchildren and eight stepgrandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter and an infant granddaughter.
