John J. "Joe" Steines, 84, of Preston died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 1989 at Samaritan North hospital, Clinton.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Miller Funeral Home in Preston, where the rosary will be said at 4 p.m. and the scripture service will be said 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Steines was a retired farmer and carpenter.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1904 near Springbrook, son of John and Elizabeth (Monner) Steines. He married Genevieve Bormann on Aug 7, 1956; she survives.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jack (Joan) Smithers of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Jack (Beatrice) Gavin of Maquoketa and Mrs. Al (Gladys) Tebbe of Springbrook; two sons, Orville Bormann of Spragueville and Eugene Bormann of Preston; and 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
