Funeral Services Held Saturday For Mrs. Anna B. Smola

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna B. Smola were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday in the Carson-Balster funeral home, with the Rev. Harry D. Green, pastor of the Methodist church, in charge. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mrs. Smola was taken ill on Monday, Jan. 26, and died at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29.

Anna B. Seda, daughter of Mary and Wincil Seda, was born December 17, 1859, in Clinton county. She grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of Monmouth and in 1883 was united in marriage to John L. Smola, of Maquoketa. The new home was established in Maquoketa. To this union were born seven children, Lena, Otto, Lawrence, John, Zoa, an infant daughter and Mrs. Ruth Merrick.

Mrs. Smola was a member of Pope Rebekah lodge No. 136, and of the Woman's Relief Corps.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ruth Merrick of Beloit, Wis.; three brothers, Frank of Dunlap, Ia.; Ed of Sterling, Ill.; and Charles of El Ceriets, Calif., and one sister, Mrs. Toney Hudson of Murdo, S.D.; three grandchildren, Mrs. Margaret Morehead of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Nadean Anderson of Washington, D.C., and Corp Lawrence Smola of Lowry Field, Denver, Colorado; and one great grandson.

Her husband, six children and five brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
