Died.
Smola---Joseph Smola was born in Bohemia, June 18, 1831, and died in Maquoketa, Iowa, April 29, 1907. Mr. Smola came to America in 1854 and settled in Maquoketa, where he continued to reside unto the end. He is survived by one brother, Wencil Smola, of Monmouth, Iowa, and one sister in Bohemia, and seven children--John L. and W. F. Smola, Mrs. M. Miller, Mrs. L. Rosecrans, Mrs. F. Tubbs, Mrs. I. Brady, all of Maquoketa, and Mrs. E. Z. Sostheim of Chicago.

His illness was of short duration. He was taken seriously ill on last Thursday noon and he passed away on Monday, at 11:40 a. m., in the home of his son John, where he had made his home for some years.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. L. L. Lockard in the home. Appropriate music was rendered by Mesdames F. H. Wilson and L. L. Black. Interment in Mt. Hope.
