PORTIA DAVIS PASSES AWAY

The people of the community were shocked when the word came Sunday from Chicago that Portia Jeanette Davis was dead. She was the youngest daughter of Mrs. J. K. Davis and was born May 7, 1902, at Maquoketa, Iowa and passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Parker, 4643 Malden Street, Chicago, Illinois.

Portia was a graduate of M. H. S., being a member of the class of 1919, and at the age of ten years she was baptized in the Congregational Church of which place she has always remained a member.

She leaves to mourn her loss the heartbroken mother and sister, Mrs. Harry Wirth of Elwood, her father preceded her in death July 4, 1919, also other relatives and a host of friends who regret to hear of the death of one so young.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock from the home of the grandparents, Mr. and mrs. A. J. York. Rev. Kidder officiated and burial was at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.
