James H. Said was born in the state of Wisconsin, Dec. 4th, 1835. He came with his parents to Iowa in about the year of 1840, where he spent the remaining years of his life excepting the service he rendered his country during the Civil War. He served 4 years and 7 months during the war. He was a soldier of the 2nd Iowa Cavalry one of the very few remaining of his company. He was an efficient and faithful soldier ever ready to do his duty, a man who took pride in serving his country well. He was a kind man in bestowing help and assistance to his fellow man in the time of need. James H. Said was married to Irene Pulford of Jackson county, Iowa, in 1867. To this union were born seven, children. Three of these died in infancy. Four daughters survive to mourn the loss of a departed father, namely, Mrs. Lizzie Point of Marion, Iowa, Mrs. Louvina Faith of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Catherine Courrier, of Atascadaro Cal., and Mrs. Maggie Stowers, of Chicago, I11inois. The two latter daughters were able to be present at the funeral. Mr. Said also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mary J. Cook of Iron Hill, Iowa, and Mrs, Mortimer Boht, of Ekalaka, Mont. Also many relatives and friends. He was a member of the G. A. R. and very punctual in the discharge of his duties of the order. During his later years he has made his home with his eldest daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Point now living in Marion, Iowa, where he died. She was a dutiful daughter, faithful to the last. She has the consolation and peace of mind of knowing that she did the best she could. A very competent reward. The funeral was held at the Adventist church at Iron Hills, June 12,1920, Rev. W. J. Trimble officiating. Interment at the cemetery near the church. Awaiting the resurrection when there shall be no man.
