BENJAMIN H. PATTERSON, EDUCATOR-MUSICIAN, DIES

Instructor at Kearney Normal, Knights of Columbus State Secretary

Benjamin H. Patterson, 41, head of the commercial education department at Kearney, Nebraska State Normal and state secretary of the Knights of Columbus in Nebraska, died at an Omaha hospital after a month's illness.

Mr. Patterson was widely known in civic activities in Kearney, and as a musician. He was a composer of band music and recently had the pleasure of hearing his compositions played by Sousa's band in a radio concert. He was director of the Kearney Normal band and orchestra. He was secretary of the Kearney Kiwanis Club, chairman of several civic committees and a member of the Elks.

Born and raised in Maquoketa, Iowa, Mr. Patterson took special training in commercial work after his graduation from Maquoketa High School. He went to Kearney Normal in 1910.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his widow, Margaret Langdon Patterson, member of a prominent Gretna family and three children, Charles, 5, Benjamin, Jr., 3, Rose Marie, 1. He was a nephew of B. F. Thomas, 3225 Poppleton, Omaha. Burial will be in Gretna.
