John G. Kruse, 85, of Maquoketa and formerly of Bryant, died Monday afternoon, March 10, 1997, at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13, at the United Church of Christ in Maquoketa, with Pastor Belva Duncan officiating. Burial was in the Miles Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 2 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at the Carson & Son Funeral Home in Maquoketa.

He attended the Miles schools and farmed in the Bryant area for 40 years, until retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Clinton County Farm Bureau, United Church of Christ and a 50-year member of Miles Masonic Lodge. He served on the Clinton County 4-H Committee for many years, and was a former member of Maquoketa Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of Jackson County Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Tom Kruse of Bryant; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Henry Kruse of Nevada, Iowa, and Virtus Kruse of Clinton.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, two brothers and three sisters.
