AGE RESIDENT PASSES AWAY
MRS. RACHAEL ERNST TAKEN BY DEATH EARLY THURSDAY MORNING
Death Came Following a Week's Illness of Bronchial Pneumonia. Was 78 Years of Age
Another pioneer and esteemed resident of this city laid down life's burdens, when Mrs. Rachael Ernst passed away at five o'clock this morning following a week's illness of bronchial pneumonia.
Mrs. Ernst whose maiden name was Racheal Tebbens, was born October 7, 1847 in Germany, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Tebbens. She came to this country with her parents when a young woman, locating on a farm in this vicinity.
On April 9, 1866 she was united in marriage to Henry Ernst at Andrew, Rev. Schaler performing the ceremony. They became the parents of four children, namely: Henry of Bellevue, John of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. N. C. Weis of Bellevue and Mrs. Lee Martin of Masinee, Wis. Her husband preceded her in death in 1921. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Hannah Rolf of Garner, Iowa and one brother, J. S. Tebbens of Andrew.
Mrs. Ernst was a conscientious Christian, a member of the Lutheran church and a woman who was ever ready to help others.
The funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 o'clock at the home on North Second street and at 1:45 at St. John's Lutheran church, Rev. E. Mutschmann officiating. Interment will be made in the Lutheran cemetery. The pallbearers will be J??? [bad text], Conrad Koeneman, Wm. Schoop, Wm. Schiltz, Fred Goetz and George Glade.
