PIONEER RESIDENT CALLED BY DEATH
HENRY ERNST, SR. PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AGED 83 YEARS
Another one of our pioneer residents has gone the way of all flesh in the death of Henry Ernst, Sr., which occurred at his home on north Second street in this city on Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock from the infirmities of age. he was nearly eighty four years of age.
Deceased was the son of the late Henry and Catherine Ernst, and was born at St. Louis, December 25, 1837. He came to Jackson county with his parent sin 1842 and was united in marriage at Andrew on April 6, 1866, with Miss Rachel Tebben. They followed the pursuit of farming in which they were successful until 1901, when they came to Bellevue to reside.
Mr. Ernst is survived by his wife, and two sons and two daughters, namely, John Ernst of Bancroft and Henry Ernst, Jr. of Bellevue, and Mrs. Nicholas Weis of Bellevue and Mrs. Lee Martin of Eagle Grove, Iowa. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. Sarah Neye of Ada, Minn., and one half-sister, Miss Anna Ernst of Bellevue.
Mr. Ernst was a man of frugal habits, a good citizen, whose life was above reproach and who was held in high respect by all who knew him.
The funeral will be held Friday afternoon, Rev. Mutschmann officiating and interment will be made in the Lutheran cemetery.
