Miss Anna Ernst Passes Away
Highly Respected Resident Succumbs Monday Night Following Stroke - Burial Today
Miss Anna Ernst, 75, and a resident of Bellevue for many years passes away at 11:55 Monday night in Moulton hospital, where she had been in a serious condition for a week following a stroke.
Anna C. Ernst was a daughter of the late Henry and Anna Houselog Ernst and was born on a farm west of here June 2, 1865. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and had been a shut-in for a number of years, owing to a defect in her walk. She was of a cheerful disposition and visitors were always made very welcome in her home. Mrs. Catherine Heinriey has been in charge of her home and assisted in her care for several years.
Her only survivors are a nephew, J. C. Ernst of Cedar Rapids and two nieces, Mrs. Hannah Weis of Dubuque and Mrs. Lee Martin of Ladysmith Wis., and a niece by marriage, Mrs. Henry Ernst, who was very attentive to Miss Ernst.
The body reposed in the John Dye funeral home until Wednesday morning when it was taken to the late home on Third street and the funeral services were held there at 2 o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Sig. H. Sandrock, pastor of St. John's Lutheran church assisted by the choir. Burial was made in the Lutheran cemetery and the following were the pallbearers: Dr. J. C. Dennison, Albert Heim, Jacob Goetz, J. P. Oberleitner, T. W. Bausch and George Brown.
Miss Ernst had all her funeral arrangements made and her requests were fully carried out. (Bellevue Leader - 19 Dec 1940 - Thursday - page 1)
