ERNST - Katherine Margaretha Ernst was born in Menslage, Germany, Sept. 12, 1824, and died at her home in this city, Feb. 4, 1899. She was a member of the Lutheran church and took an active interest in all church work from the time she was confirmed in April 1838. She came to America in 1844 and resided at St. Louis for three years, when she removed to Bellevue. In 1847 she was married to John Herman Burcheding and this union was blessed with three children - one living and a resident of this place - John Burcheding. Her husband died July 2, 1851. She was again married Sept, 12, 1853 to Henry Ernst, and they were parents of four children, only one - Miss Anna C. Ernst - surviving. Mr. Ernst died Dec. 27, 1885.
Funeral took place Tuesday Feb. 7, When Rev. Lenz, who officiated took occasion to pronounce a fitting eulogy on the life of the departed who had been a woman loved and respected by all who knew her. the remains were interred in the Lutheran cemetery. (Bellevue Leader - 16 Feb 1899 - Thursday)
